Polylexical Translation Equivalents in a Spanish-French Dictionary of Adjectives
Abstract
Based on an electronic dictionary of more than 15,000 Spanish adjectives, that we elaborated in the frame of the research laboratory fLexSem (Phonetics, Lexicology and Semantics, UAB), this paper describes all the cases where a multilexical unit in French is given as a translation equivalent for an unilexical adjective in Spanish. The aim of this description is, on the one hand, to establish the notion of polylexical adjective as a necessary category in translation equivalence for bilingual dictionaries. On the other hand, we have also as goal to provide a full formal typology of these translation equivalents.Downloads
