The translation of cultural references in the Spanish version of Miss Merkel: Mord in der Uckermark, by bestseller’s autor David Safier
Abstract
In this paper we aim to analyze the Spanish translation of the penultimate novel by the famous German bestseller’s author David Safier, Miss Merkel: Mord in der Uckermark (2021), translated with the title Miss Merkel. El caso de la canciller jubilada in the Spanish version. Like almost all his novels, it is a humorous work full of German cultural elements, and its pages are also peppered with several references to famous films, books, and songs. These are the main problems in the translation of the novel and will be the central aspect of our practical analysis based on classic and more recent theoretical works on the translation of the “cultural elements”.
