Keywords: olive oil tourism, translation, Linguistics, discourse analysis

Abstract

Olive oil tourism or oleotourism is a field that has been little explored in Tourismology and Language Sciences. In this paper, based on a comparable textual corpus and a parallel corpus, the linguistic and stylistic characteristics of the olive oil tourism discourse will be analysed. Furthermore, this contribution will address how these characteristics have been translated in the official tourism websites of Spain (spain.info) and Andalusia (andalucia.org). This study concludes that the olive oil tourism discourse is characterised by an abundance of terms from olive growing and a heterogeneous set of strategies such as metaphors, puns, and slogans. It will be emphasised the existence of cultural elements that will require an important work of intercultural mediation of the translator.
