Television in Spain in the face of eco-social transition: A territory for intervention
Abstract
This article analyses Spanish generalist television schedules, presenting a categorisation of programming linked to the eco-social transition (ET), a concept that addresses issues of environmental, socio-economic and human rights justice. A total of thirty-seven programmes has been identified on national television and one hundred and thirteen on regional channels. The analysis was carried out in different months of 2024, considering eleven thematic variables. The aim is to highlight television programmes that provide keys to promoting new imaginaries for ET, with proactive and transformative content that generates debate about the benefits of adopting an eco-social perspective. To this end, a conceptual and observational framework is proposed that distinguishes between ‘diagnostic information’ (D.I.) and ‘antidote information’ (A.I.). The study reflects a greater commitment by public television to ET, the predominance of diagnostic information over antidote information, and the existence of programmes with ambivalent content on ET.
