Video Essays

Scope and Content

The “Video Essays” section includes original videographic works created from films, moving images, and other audiovisual materials. These contributions should address topics relevant to the scope and focus of Teknokultura, particularly those related to the ways in which technology and digital media reconfigure social, economic, political, and cultural life.

Requirements

  • The video essay must have a maximum duration of 15 minutes and a file size not exceeding 400 MB.
  • Works that have previously circulated on video platforms are accepted, provided they have not been published in or evaluated by academic journals.
  • The work must not be under review by another journal.

Statement

Each video essay must be accompanied by a text (between 500 and 1,000 words, including bibliography and additional materials) that:

  • Clearly explains the objectives of the work.
  • Describes the research process and the audiovisual production process.

This text should avoid repeating content already visible in the video. Instead, it should provide analytical, methodological, and contextual elements that make it possible to assess the coherence, relevance, and contribution of the video essay within the academic framework of the journal.

Submission and Format

To complete the submission process, both the video essay and the accompanying text must be uploaded to the Teknokultura platform. In addition, authors must:

Videos must not exceed 400 MB. If the file exceeds this size, compression using HandBrake is recommended (free download; under the “Video” tab, select “Constant Quality” and set the value to RF 15).

Review Process

Video essays will be evaluated by an external committee through a double-blind peer review process, meaning that both the author’s and the reviewer’s identities remain mutually anonymous. Reviews of video essays accepted for publication, provided that the reviewers have given their consent, will be published as Open Peer Review (OPR). Reviewer identities will remain anonymous.
