Art, design, and digital culture
Abstract
This monograph is the result of a series of ongoing activities focused on digital creative practices, promoted by the citizen lab Medialab Prado and known as #EDCD (Encounters on Design and Digital Culture), which was active from 2013 to 2021. The issue explores the implications of digital culture for the practice of arts and design, along with an epistemological approach to citizen collaboration as a space for artistic co-creation, citizen labs, artistic utopias for social change, and related technological and artistic projects. We examine the capacity of #EDCD and, by extension, Medialab Prado, to connect creative communities with emerging technological developments and foster scenarios that promote a critical culture committed to the idea that design and art can—and should—serve as tools for social transformation.
