Live Code Mad. A learning community around live coding
Abstract
Medialab Prado was a cultural centre located at the Serrería Belga in Madrid, relevant for its community and participatory vision of culture. Through an open call for mediation and research, it was possible to carry out, between 2015 and 2017, “Sound Technologies”, a project that promoted a local community dedicated to the practice of live coding. This heterogeneous and diverse work group experimented with open-source programming tools for music live coding. This practice not only allows experimenting with code and music, but also was a trigger in building a local community of people with very diverse backgrounds and interests, attracted by electronic music, free culture movement, software development and creative coding, which represents an alternative narrative to the usual models of production, distribution, and consumption of this type of music.
