'Der Sommer kam und Berlin war der schönste Platz auf Erden...' Culture and ideology in the Spanish dubbing of 'Good bye, Lenin!'
Abstract
This paper analyses the translation of culturemes in the Spanish dubbing of Good bye, Lenin!, a historical and political film in which these units play an important role in recreating events and recalling ideas and values which were abruptly interrupted by the German reunification process. After outlining some major features of the official propaganda discourse of the GDR regime, this work classifies the culturemes and analyses the main techniques used in their translation and how they contribute to the strategy that has been generally adopted throughout the text.
