Abstract

In this article we analyse the phenomenon of retranslation through the study of the two Italian translations of a Spanish contemporary classic of children’s and youth literature: Manolito Gafotas, written by Elvira Lindo (1994). These are Manolito Quattrocchi (Milano: Mondadori, 1999), translated by Fiammetta Biancatelli; and Ecco Manolito (Roma: Lapis, 2014), translated by Luisa Mattia. The short temporal distance between the two texts makes ask ourselves the reason for this retranslation. The analysis of the texts will lead us to confirm that the new publication proves to use the mechanisms of colloquiality and orality of the original text, sometimes even exceeding it. The result will be a more efficient text in pragmatics.
