Self-perception of Galician shellfish women about their media representation: a reception study
Abstract
The following article shows how shellfishers women of the Galician coast perceive the mediatic representations of their work, on the basis of a reception study with a focus group. The research takes into account contributions from Feminist Economics, since the shellfish by foot is a highly feminized job, and from Cultural Studies, which take into consideration the particularities of media consumption of women. Results indicate that shellfishers have a critical discourse about the representations proposed by media, which tend to simplify their work.
