Analysis of the consequences of the economic crisis in the press sector: the case of the Basque Country
Abstract
In this article we evaluate the impact of the economic crisis over press and information media in the Basque Country. To that purpose, first we include an ad-hoc definition of the sector according to the National Classification of Economic Activities (NACE-2009), which allows us to use statistical sources barely employed to analyse the sector, and show that smallest companies have been especially hard hit by the crisis. We also assess the effects of the crisis over the business of the activity branches included in the sector (press, radio, TV and news agencies), and we evidence the heterogeneity of a regional business network in which no big multimedia corporation participates.Downloads
