Objectivity is not Neutrality: the Objectivity Norm as the Journalistic Method
Abstract
The necessary distance to the news has led us to consider objectivity, neutrality, impartiality and independence as synonyms of equidistance. Those features of current journalism made reporting aseptic, based on the model of confrontation between statements by two sources (“She said - he said”). It has been required to be corrected precisely from the concept of objectivity. In this article, the elements of objectivity as the journalistic method will be discussed, as well as the most employed content analysis indicators to analyze objectivity in the context of news quality.
