Reclaiming women, rethinking the field: a critical invitation to communication researchers
Abstract
This essay addresses the need to rethink the field of communication by recovering the work of women researchers and feminine approaches that have been marginalized in academic practices. The reconstruction and rethinking of the field that I propose is neither a futile gesture nor a misguided "do-gooder" initiative. Recognizing them is an invitation for our epistemic community to become aware of what we have done and what we want to change in order to move forward as a discipline committed to truth. Ultimately, this commitment means ensuring that our research accounts for the full communicative experience. To this end, I extend a critical invitation to my fellow researchers, based on three fundamental challenges: redefining our epistemic community's canon, answering the "why," and reclaiming the importance of passionate researchDownloads
