Author Biographies

Lucía Benítez-Eyzaguirre, Universidad de Cádiz

Trainer and consultant in communication, technology and innovation, with a gender perspective. Journalist, sociologist and filmmaker. Professor of Audiovisual Communication and Advertising at the University of Cadiz, and of the Master's Degree in Digital Marketing and the Master's Degree in Strategic Management and Innovation in Communication. PhD from the University of Seville. Extraordinary Doctorate Award from the University of Seville and RTVA Award for the best doctoral thesis in Communication. Expert in Audiovisual Production and Free Software, she researches digital communication and the uses of technology. In the field of Communication for Development, she participates in research cooperation projects in different countries in Africa and Latin America.

Juan Antonio Roa-Domínguez, Universidad de Cádiz

PhD candidate in Communication at the University of Cádiz. Graduate in Marketing and Market Research. Master's degree in Strategic Management and Innovation in Communication. Master's degree in Systems and Computer Engineering Research. He is an expert in creative documentaries (RTVE). He has participated in national and international conferences, as well as being a researcher in competitive R&D&I projects related to migration, trade unionism, technology and gender. Member of the SEJ-657 research group on Transformations and Conflicts in Contemporary Societies.

His research is carried out in the field of video games, specifically in their role as vehicles for utopian narratives and their capacity to be drivers of change, having developed digital artefacts that have explored different facets of social change, from interactive narratives to systems based on IoT technologies in the context of smart cities.

Marta García-Angulo, Universidad Autónoma de Madrid

She holds a degree in Pedagogy and Teaching from the Complutense University of Madrid, a Master's degree in Communication and Digital Education from the UNED, and a Master's degree in Design-BBAA from the UCM. She has worked as a teacher and educator in socially disadvantaged environments, and has also developed her own textile manufacturing and experimentation project over the last 10 years. She is currently working on her doctoral thesis in the Department of Artistic and Visual Education at the Autonomous University of Madrid, with a line of research on methodologies for the design and digital manufacturing of educational resources using the maker methodology. She has participated in the Medialab Prado citizen laboratories, taking part in several collaborative projects, notably the design and development of the Narrativas verticales N(UP) resource. She has coordinated the Design and Digital Culture Encounters at Medialab Prado-Madrid in collaboration with Spanish art schools and universities. She currently combines her teaching work at the School of Design, in the Higher Degree in Fashion Design and the Master's Degree in Interactive Design, with freelance work coordinating design, communication and digital education projects.

Javier de Rivera-Outomuro , Universidad de Vigo

Sociologist specialising in the study of digital technologies from a critical perspective, taking into account both their impact on society and the way in which they are socially produced. He is also a member of the research group ‘Cibersomosaguas, digital culture and social movements’ at the Complutense University of Madrid. He currently teaches sociology at the University of Vigo.
