The methodology used to compile these statistics relies on conventional assumptions about the gender typically associated with personal names, as we currently lack a system for authors to self-identify their gender. Moreover, our editorial management platform, Open Journal Systems (OJS), does not yet support metadata fields for gender identity. This approach is inherently limited and may introduce bias, as we cannot determine whether individuals are using their legal name or their chosen name. Some trans or non-binary individuals may continue to use their legal name for a variety of personal or structural reasons, which further complicates efforts to analyze gender representation accurately.

We therefore encourage readers to interpret this data with care, recognizing the methodological limitations and potential biases involved. As Teknokultura advances toward more inclusive and precise data collection—and as OJS evolves to accommodate gender identity metadata—we aim to improve the visibility and representation of diverse gender identities in our reporting.
