An approach to feminisms from the margins: Social and political proposals from digital activism
Abstract
This article analyzes cyberactivism from the perspective of feminist women located in marginalized positions within Spanish society. The article aimed to explore their social and political proposals, as well as their incorporation of the digital into feminist action. Based on a digital ethnographic approach, implemented during the COVID-19 pandemic, participatory observations were conducted on the Twitter and Instagram accounts of thirty activists, five of whom were interviewed in-depth. The findings point to the importance of an intersectional approach when addressing gender inequality as well as the recognition of cultural otherness. The study found that, for the participants, the integration of diversity was not so much the issue as the decolonization of society and its individuals. On the other hand, they also advocated for a hybrid approach to activism in which the digital supports reinforce and amplify street-level struggle.
