Linguistic activism occupying the Internet: Andalûh and AndaluGeeks

Abstract

Writing in Andalusian is currently enjoying the greatest presence and social impact ever in the history of the Andalusian language. The article presents the experience of AndaluGeeks, a non-governmental organization that has spent three years developing internet applications to accelerate the learning, dissemination, and conservation of written Andalusian. This groups activism illustrates how social movements can appropriate technology and the Internet to fight against social and cultural minorization.

José Félix Ontañón Carmona, AndaluGeeks

Responsible for the Research and Innovation department at PodGroup, with an emphasis on IoT Connectivity, LPWANs, Artificial Intelligence and Edge Computing. As a social researcher and activist, he's Co-Founder of of AndaluGeeks, an NGO advocating for the andalusian language, Co-Founder of OpenKratio, an NGO advocating for OpenData and OpenGovernment, Member of the Open Government Forum for the Ministry of Presidency of Spain, author of article Political Party as a Platform, and author of the chapter "Open Government activist characterization" for the book: Unveiling the internet myth.
