Analysing coeducation: perspective of families, teachers and adolescents
Abstract
Introduction: Inequality and gender-based violence continue to be reproduced among new generations, so a large part of society is seeking solutions through education. The aim of this study has been to analyse the persistence of gender inequality, as well as to explore how it is addressed through coeducation in families and educational centres in Castilla-La Mancha. Method: The study presents a sequential structure divided into two investigations. The first, based on a quantitative paradigm, has a representative sample of 1840 students from the 3rd and 4th years of Compulsory Secondary Education. The second, based on a qualitative paradigm, has a sample of 109 adolescents, 11 teachers, and 10 parents. Results: The quantitative results indicate that most of the adolescent sample considers that current society is male chauvinist. On the other hand, the qualitative results show that families and teachers consider that education in equality is important today; however, adolescents perceive contradictions between the discourse and educational practice. Conclusion: Considering the persistence of gender inequalities, coeducation must become a tool for social transformation by families and schools.
