Tourism Consumer Behavior. A Bibliometric Analysis on Scopus

Keywords: Tourist consumer behavior, research trends, scientific production

Abstract

Tourist consumer behavior has been the object of study of several papers about marketing over the last three decades. This paper analyses scientific production on this field, from the bibliometric analysis of the articles published in scientific journals, indexed in the SCOPUS database between 2009 and 2018; from a sample of 330 scientific articles taken from 100 journals. That scientific production was formally and thematically characterized through several bibliometric indicators, among which the following stand out: productivity by authors, chronological variation of the number of works published in this field of science, productivity by countries, most productive institutions, techniques of research used and content analysis, among other elements that were of interest for this type of study. The results show a positive evolution of the research on tourist consumer behavior from a quantitative point of view, the main clusters associated with the topic, which highlights the terms marketing, destination, travel experience and tourism, as well as the main techniques used, where the models of structural equations stand out. This paper helps to identify the main trends in research on tourist consumer behavior in recent years.
