Editorial interests in the debate on Artificial Intelligence: Geoffrey Hinton's resignation from Google in the Spanish press
Abstract
This study investigates how the reworking of an original news story into journalistic articles reflects the editorial interests of various Spanish newspapers, particularly within the context of the debate on Artificial Intelligence (AI). Employing an article from The New York Times as a case study, we analyze its subsequent use in the composition of other articles. The research aims to understand what the transformation of a news text reveals about media stances in the AI debate. We explore the mechanisms of reformation employed by the press, including the prioritization of certain information, the omission of details, the addition of content, the issuance of judgments, and the distortion of data. These methods illustrate how the media positions itself in the debate on the risks of AI. Our findings reveal notable differences in the approach and treatment of the subject between traditional and digital newspapers.
