Perceptions and attitudes of students in Madrid towards politics and the media
Abstract
This study analyses for the first time the perceptions and attitudes of young adults by means of a survey carried out among undergraduates and vocational training students in Madrid. The findings reveal that this group —undergraduates to a greater extent— has a centre-left ideology, has a moderate political knowledge; is interested in politics, particularly national and international politics, in voting, although more than two thirds didn’t vote in the past elections. Most of them consider that they determine their own political inclination, although it also points to the importance of families. Paradoxically, it also believes that traditional media has little influence on their ideology and it hardly consumes it in spite of giving it more credibility. It concludes that these young adults are not an homogeneous group as for their relation with politics and media, but there are differences among them determined mainly by their education.
