Abstract

This study explores the process in the creation of the so- called “monarchist imaginary” and the function of the different agents implied in the last months of Juan Carlos de Borbón’s reign in 2014. We believe that the action of the Royal Family to assure the survival of the crown consisted in the progressive introduction of Felipe de Borbón in the public scene as inheritor, with a transfer of responsibilities, to create a good public image. We will examine the role of the Monarchy as the creator of the message issued by the Spanish public television newscast. We will also attend the way the media edits and offers to the audience the information about the spasnish Royal Family as news.
