Diversity and Discrimination as Appears in Some Frames in "El País", "El Mundo" and "ABC"
Abstract
Although clichés and stereotypes are still used, in an unconscious manner, by some institutions and by social groups regarding diversity and discrimination (ethnic, religion, immigration, homosexuality, exclusion...), the analysis regarding frames of the three Spanish newspapers with the widest readership (El Pais, El Mundo and ABC), published between 13 and 19 February, 2012, shows sensitivity when dealing with these issues and favourable positions. Content analysis shows intentionality as regards the selection and treatment of topics which are generally controversial. Concerning news and opinions with the same content and focus and which reveal a common source of information, the three newspapers reflect considerable differences as to the selection and framing of the issues.Downloads
