Abstract

This text analyzes the use of gestures and objects in one of the most emblematic films of North American film director Howard Hawks. We verify that the actors in the movie, as those in other Hawks’s films, rely on different adapters (category inside the field of kinesics) and objects to create their characters. Through them they transmit us characters’s real intentions and feelings. This aspect, together with the capacity of the director to provide information through the contradiction between verbal and non verbal dimension and his skill in integrating both, reveals an important psychological component in his movies and a deep knowledge of human communication process.
