Local television language policy: The case of Hamaika Telebista
Abstract
The main goal of this research is to analyse the creation and the development of Hamaika TV. The television channel was launched following the digitization process, and aims to promote the Basque language in television. In order to perform this study an exhaustive documentary analysis and in-depth interviews were conducted. Moreover, we examined the schedule and the audience of Hamaika TV. This paper sheds light to the emergence of this new actor, showing that the birth of this agent is the result of the Basque Government's approach to design the proximity digital television of the Basque Autonomous Community (BAC).
