Active teaching methodologies during the COVID-19 pandemic: A case study for music composition at a distance
Abstract
The measures taken by governments to control the spread of the COVID-19 virus, such as social distancing and home confinements, had a direct implication on educational centers, making it necessary to change rapidly from face-to-face to online learning. Practical sessions as well as active methodologies, which are based on interaction between students and teachers, were particularly affected by these measures. This study uses a single descriptive case study on the implementation of an online art education project in the sixth year of primary education that analyzed the context of the group in relation to ICT. The project was documented and the virtual interactions between students and teachers are described. The results show that the students had hardly any difficulties in using the digital platform, having participated in a previous blended learning project. However, they found problems with the specific software. Based on an analysis of the visualization metrics, the solution provided by the teacher did not have a significant impact. The case analysis also found that all interactions were through emails and comments on the digital platform and that these reduced significantly as the project progressed.
