Abstract

The impact of school libraries on promoting reading among students is analyzed through a survey conducted with first-year secondary school students (1º ESO) in two institutes in the Community of Madrid. A mixed-methods approach was used, obtaining quantitative data analyzed through descriptive statistical techniques and qualitative data compared through content analysis. Barriers such as a lack of awareness about available resources and the limited offering of engaging reading-related activities were identified. Although most students recognize the importance of reading, only a small percentage regularly use the library, despite these spaces being essential educational resources. The analysis reveals low library usage, a lack of student motivation toward reading, and concludes that it is essential to implement more dynamic and engaging activities to increase library use and promote reading habits, which are key to students’ academic and personal development.
