The impact of emotional intelligence on the social integration of prospective teacher trainees
Abstract
Introduction: Emotional intelligence plays a fundamental role in learning because it improves your ability to handle yourself in social and personal situations and contributes to social integration in the teaching profession. Method: A cross-sectional descriptive-correlational case study design was used. The sample consisted of 300 students from the Primary Education and Early Childhood Education grades, selected through non-probabilistic convenience sampling. 70.3% of the sample are women while men represented 29.7%. Two instruments were used: the TMMS-24 questionnaires to measure emotional intelligence and the QISES-R to evaluate social integration. Given the lack of normality of the sample, the Mann and Whitney and Kruskal Wallis U tests were used, as well as the linear regression to establish the predictability of the variable. Results: The results support the idea that emotional intelligence plays a crucial role in promoting social integration. Discussion: It is essential to promote the development of emotional intelligence in teacher training, since this contributes to better social integration and more effective professional performance.
