How schools can be supported to developing more inclusive practices? Exploring resources and tools

Keywords: inclusive education, school, guidance, documentary analysis

Abstract

The process of inclusion is one of the great challenges still facing the Spanish education system. In recent years, there has been an increase in the number of resources and tools that try to support schools in developing more inclusive practices. Method. Based on this reality, a qualitative study is presented, using documentary content analysis of a total of twelve sources (six resources and six tools) with the main aim of exploring some of the materials that are available to schools on their journey towards inclusion. The specific aim is to explore in depth the instruments that these documents provide for the review of inclusive practices. Results. In the section on results, the concept of inclusion as reflected in the documentary sources consulted is described, the target groups and educational stages at which they are aimed are identified, the barriers that hinder the development of inclusive education are addressed, and the instruments for reflection, training, evaluation and improvement that these resources and tools provide in terms of inclusion are described. Discussion. The conclusions point to the impact that the use of this type of materials can have in schools, hence the need to make these reference documents known to teaching professionals in practice, thus contributing to not losing sight of the horizon to which inclusion aspires.
