Fluidity and verbal understanding and its relationship with attention, clarity and emotional repair in adolescents

Abstract

Introduction: Emotional intelligence is a good predictor of personal and social performance. It can be attributed to a quality of emotional life and better psychological adjustment. The main objective of the research is to investigate the association between comprehension and verbal fluency with Attention emotional, Clarity emotional and Repair of emotions in adolescents. Method: A study has been undertaken based on 483 students aged between 15 and 25 years (M = 16.64; SD = 1.67), using non probability sampling. The measuring instruments have been the TMMS-24 scale and the Primary Mental Abilities Test. Results: The results of the study indicate a positive and statistically correlation between emotional Attention and verbal Fluency. Likewise, significant differences in Attention factors and Emotional Clarity are evident. However, these are not significant in verbal abilities. Higher scores in fluency and verbal comprehension were obtained from the students in public education centres. In addition, it has been confirmed that older students showed a greater fluency and verbal expression. Discussion: The link between verbal fluency and the ability to feel and express feelings adequately is verified, so that thepsychosocial and educative implications are analyzed.
