Abstract

San Basilio de Palenque is a corregimiento of the municipality of Mahates in the Department of Bolívar (Colombia) declared Intangible Heritage of Humanity by Unesco in 2005. It has found in tourism an opportunity for visibility and economic income, which led to the community in 2016 to propose an Ethno-touristic Route. Therefore, a joint work was carried out in 2017 and 2018, between the Mesa de Etnoturismo de San Basilio de Palenque, the Fundación Semana and the School of Architecture and Habitat of the Universidad de Bogotá Jorge Tadeo Lozano, in order to formulate and develop this project, agreed from the territory, through an interdisciplinary laboratory and participatory creation that established three conditions as a starting point: 1) The valuation of the palenquero "cultural space", 2) A particular view of the territory and 3) The relationship between palenquera culture, heritage and tourism. In that sense, this document summarizes the process that allowed its design and implementation in the corregimiento.
