The translation into Spanish sign language of the comic-book Margalida Jofre
Abstract
The comic is a hybrid language medium with high levels of popularity and translation. This research is an approximation to the translation of the comic book from an inter-semiotic perspective, through a very unique case: the translation of Margalida Jofre, la dona que va rompre barreres to the Spanish sign language. We have confirmed that, thanks to its audiovisual format, the constraints imposed by space are eliminated and explanatory strategies are applied to facilitate the diegesis for deaf readers. The iconic, gestural and spatial nature of this language also provides an exceptional representation of the graphic elements of the panels, an interrelationship that enriches the translation itself and its reading.
