Treatment of intertextuality in the Catalan translations of Samuel Beckett’s "Happy Days" and "Oh les beaux jours"

Abstract

Samuel Beckett is one of the writers whose self-translating practice has received more attention. His work Happy Days, self-translated into French as Oh les beaux jours, stands out –among many other reasons– for the great number of literary works quoted by its main character. This article analyses the treatment of literary allusions in the Catalan translations of both versions: Oh, els bons dies, by Vicenç Altaió and Patrick Gifreu (1984), and Dies feliços by Joaquim Mallafrè (1996).
