The podcast as an object of study in the field of communication: analysis of scientific production in Scopus (2004-2023)

Keywords: Podcast, Communication, Scientific production, Scopus, impact

Abstract

The objective of this research is to identify and analyze the scientific production on podcasts within the field of Communication and its impact, from its beginnings in 2004 until 2023, through journals indexed in Scopus. For the bibliometric analysis of the data, the scientific production evaluation tool Scival has been used. Among the results obtained, there is a notable growth in scientific production on podcasts over the last three years, particularly in 2023, when production nearly doubled compared to the previous year. This work has highlighted Spain’s international position as one of the leading producers of scientific research on the subject, ranking second in the number of citations and first in the number of views of podcast-related research. However, the impact of Spanish publications is limited in relation to their production. The study reveals that articles published in Spanish, although receiving many views due to the interest generated by their titles and abstracts in English, are ultimately not consulted or cited to the same extent by authors who do not master this language. Finally, it is worth noting the prevalence of co-authorship, although international collaboration remains a challenge.
