Media representation of migration. Maps and bibliometric analysis of scientific production on the subject.
Abstract
The discourse and media representations on migration have gained special relevance in scientific production in recent years. Therefore, this article aims to contribute to the general knowledge on this topic by mapping the scientific activity in this field. In this sense, an analysis of bibliometric indicators and visualisation maps extracted from the Scopus and VOSviewer databases, from 2001 to 2024, is carried out. The main objective of this research is to analyse the basic descriptive metrics of the scientific production on media representations of migration as well as to recognise the main trends in the academic literature on the field under study. The evidence shows that there has been an exponential growth in the scientific production on media representations of migration, which is an important indicator for considering that it is a topic of great interest to the scientific community. There is also little propensity for collaborative production of this type of studies, although the thematic richness is considerable. The United Kingdom, the United States and Spain stand out as the most productive countries.
