Telling the war through Twitter: A case study of Descifrando la Guerra
Abstract
The purpose of this research is to analyze the phenomenon of Descifrando la guerra, a media that emerged from the initiative of several users on the social media platform Twitter. It achieved its consolidation coinciding with the beginning of the war between Russia and Ukraine. For its study, we have combined quantitative procedures, such as the analysis of social networks, and qualitative ones, such as the execution of in-depth semi-structured interviews with its main managers and web content analysis. The results reveal that this medium, which was born in 2017 with the aim of bringing international politics to to a specialised audience, has managed to arouse public interest, consolidating a considerable number of followers, which has increased notably with the outbreak of the war in Ukraine, with which it has even surpassed other similar platforms with greater experience.
