Hypermedia resources in the coverage of the climate emergency during 2019 in Spain: analysis of El País, La Vanguardia and El Confidencial
Abstract
The year 2019 is a turning point in the fight against climate change. Civil society has placed this problem at the focus of the media agenda, leading to significant changes in its reporting. In our study we analyze the capacity of adaptation of Spanish newspapers to these new circumstances, and we check if they have learnt how to take advantage of this moment of high attention to overcome the disadvantages that the representation of the climate change entails, such as proximity and contextualization. To this end, we propose a content analysis focused on the study of information complements, as they have a great capacity for dissemination, taking into account multimedia elements, hyperlinks and recommended texts. The results show an evolution in the journalistic treatment, according with the creative proposals promoted from the international field, so we can point out that the year 2019 seems to have given birth to a new way of doing journalism, closer and more responsible.
