Censorship
Qualitative approach through perceptions of young Chinese living in Madrid
Abstract
To investigate meanings, causes and consequences of censorship, it have been held two discussion groups with young Chinese living in Madrid who were attending or attended university, being one of the groups made up of Chinese enrolled in communication-related studies. Although it could be thought that these young people are against censorship, the two GDs provided arguments for and against censorship. By asking the participants what would happen if the GFW (Great Fire Wall) disappeared, while Chinese who studied or were studying communication related studies believed that China would remain the same due to the fact that its inhabitants suffer from a training in citizen awareness, in the group of participants enrolled in other studies it was argued that there would be a "shock of thought" that would lead to social movements "with the probability that some people would go crazy".
