Social and media celebrities: an analysis of the cover pages’ topics of El Magazine’s newspaper supplement (1990-2016)
Abstract
Previous research shows the close relation between social and media contexts. Particularly, the study of celebrity in a cultural and geographic area provides an approach to its people’s referents. The current paper analyses celebrity within the communicative landscape scene in Catalonia and Spain. Cover pages of El Magazine supplement are reviewed with the objective of determining the role that celebrities play. At the same time, this research studies the predominant topics and their evolution over the last three decades. The results show the crucial importance of topics like Society, Cinema or Fashion. Also, results provide evidence on the role played by Sport and Music celebrities, and increasingly, from other areas such as Gastronomy.Downloads
