The Accurate Representation of the Origin of Gender Violence in the Written Press: a Proposal for its Measurement
Abstract
In spite of the great number of recommendations manuals about the representation of gender violence in the media disseminated since the end of the twentieth century, we believe that is necessary a better training of journalists who work in the Spanish press so that they can transmit an accurate representation of gender violence, to the citizens. To this end, we have developed a number of indicators to measure the accuracy in the image conveyed about the causes of violence. This measurement has been based on the news published in ABC, El Mundo and El País newspapers during 2015, and we have studied the false messages about the causes of gender violence which are transmitted through the written press.
