History of Literature in the Spanish Language and Literature curriculum: from the LOGSE to the current LOMLOE in Obligatory Education
Abstract
The historical organization of literature, along with the practice of text commentary, has been the mainstay of the teaching of literature throughout the last century. However, since the 1990s, with the emergence of didactics of language and literature, an intense debate has been generated about the functionality of certain content and methodologies. This study aims to describe the presence of the contents of the history of literature in the laws of the last 50 years, as well as to promote reflection on the contribution of these contents to literary education. For this purpose, after a conceptual delimitation of the term “history of literature,” some indicators are formulated to compare different national educational laws. It is concluded that the contents of the history of literature have experienced a progressive decline, and that the freedom offered by the current LOMLOE motivates regional regulations to present varied and even opposing situations, which shows a lack of consensus on this issue both among educational administrations and among specialists.
