Linguistic change to Galician. Influence of teachers on their Early Chilhood Education and Primary Education students.
Abstract
The different communicative competence of students in Galician and Spanish, despite their status as co-official languages, is of concern due to its repercussions in the Galician university environment. In this article, we analyse the self-perceived linguistic competence of the teaching staff of the Early Childhood Education and Primary Education degrees at the Ourense and Pontevedra campuses of the University of Vigo with respect to their influence on the language habitually used by the students. We aim to determine the decline or increase of Galician as a first language and in its habitual use since the normalisation plan implemented in the 2019-2020 academic year. The teachers' response to this plan contributes to a linguistic shift towards Galician.
