Abstract

In this paper partial results are given of a research project on “Assessment of learning abilities and disabilities in the written composition of students with special educational needs related to hearing impairment”. The main goal of this work was to describe the syntactic deviations in texts written by deaf students. In the phase of data gathering free writing strategy was applied. Texts were analyzed according to a model designed by Dr. Salvador Mata (1997, 1999). In general, results indicate that deaf students obtained a low achievement in the syntactic level of the written composition. The causal factors, we think, could be experience and communicative limitations. The results of this investigation could guide educational intervention program.
