Fotografiar la Catástrofe Cotidiana: Reflexiones sobre las dinámicas de la Cultura Visual en diálogo con Paulo Freire
Abstract
The article explores catastrophe as a continuous process integrated into the daily lives of communities impacted by socio-environmental calamities, focusing on the collapse of the Fundão Dam in Mariana, Minas Gerais, in 2015. Faced with the "Everyday Catastrophe," it investigates how photographic literacy, inspired by Paulo Freire, can help young people from Mariana represent and reframe their experiences. The objective is to reflect on how the "Olhares Comunitários" project, using photography and dialogue, stimulates critical thinking, the production of visual narratives, and the reframing of territory. The theoretical-methodological basis combines Freirean pedagogy and visual culture theory. The contributions point to the potential of photographic literacy as a tool for empowerment and social transformation, allowing young people to express their realities, strengthen their sense of belonging, and construct new perspectives on the everyday catastrophe, breaking away from the media-imposed vision and promoting autonomy and dignity.
