Art Competences in High Education regarding Sustainable Development Goals (SDG). Syllabi Analyses
Abstract
Art competences reflected in the syllabi of Higher Art Education boost the expert training of students in the area, while promoting a citizenship committed to their environment in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This paper studies the relationships between Art competences, Art and SDGs in undergraduate and postgraduate degrees at three Spanish universities with the aim of identifying artistic content and the presence of SDGs in the 28 syllabi analysed, using the Documentary Research method and the Content Analysis technique. The results indicate an expected majority presence of Art-related competences in the syllabi, while at the same time showing a merely testimonial relationship of artistic competences with the SDGs, mainly in postgraduate degrees. For all these reasons, can be stated an acceptable development of artistic competences in Higher Education and a poor alignment of these competences with the 2030 Agenda, which calls for a more determined commitment to the implementation of the SDGs in higher arts education through syllabi.
