Shared views of place. Patterns for the design of intergenerational school-neighbourhood projects
Abstract
The main objective of this article is to present a methodology for the development of intergenerational educational projects linking school, neighbourhood, childhood and community. Establishing a shared dialogue that relates the spontaneous vision of childhood with the view and experience of previous generations means recognising the fundamental role of both groups as the main active agents for social change. It is through educating children from the earliest years in the knowledge of the culture of our local context, that we will be able to generate attitudes of sensitivity, respect and conscious criticism of the problems that affect us on a daily basis. The three projects carried out are based on prior research on the place, which is carried out through neighbourhood meetings in the social centres, and which serves as a trigger for the workshops with children. Finally, a support for collective creation is made, which varies in the different proposals and functions as a way of recording and transferring the contents analysed. These mediation devices are the result of the application of the methodological model presented, forming an extensive documentary base for the development of new action and research projects on the social construction of place.
