Berrocal's multiple sculpture as “Un petit musée portable”. Il Cofanetto. Homage to “Romeo e Giulietta” in the city of Verona (Opus 123), 1969-1975
Abstract
This article examines the methodologies and creative process of Miguel Berrocal through the analysis of one of his multiple sculptures, Il Cofanetto. Homage to “Romeo e Giulietta” in the city of Verona (Opus 123), 1969-1975. The central hypothesis of this work relates this work to the configuration of a small self-referential portable museum analogous to the proposal of Marcel Duchamp's Boîte en Valise (1942). This is an approach that has not been explored so far and whose analysis is based on the study of primary and direct sources. It has been possible to examine unpublished drawings, annotations, plans and sketches by the artist himself, kept in the Documentation Center of the Fundación Berrocal.
