Construction of gender mandates in preschool children in Zinacantán, Chiapas
Abstract
The purpose of this work is to learn about the construction of gender mandates in girls and boys of the Justo Sierra Mendez preschool in the indigenous municipality of Zinacantán, Chiapas. Likewise, to identify the mandates that continue to be reproduced and those that are being transformed in the family, school and community context. The research was carried out using qualitative methodology, the techniques applied were: Participant observation, semi-structured interviews and a participatory playful workshop, in which it was observed that gender mandates continue to be reproduced in this age range, where there is still segregation between boys and girls, but that, at times, these gender mandates are being transformed for a healthy coexistence of boys and girls towards inclusion. This could be seen in some of the artistic practices that girls and boys carried out in the workshop, where for moments, they socialized leaving behind gender stereotypes towards an equitable coexistence.
