School Libraries: Equipment, Services, Collection, Professional Profile, and Management Models in the Autonomous Community of Aragon (Spain)
Abstract
This article carries out a detailed analysis of various aspects of school libraries located in the autonomous community of Aragon, such as the facilities, services, collection, professional profile of the person responsible for it, and the different management methods observed in the educational centres of the autonomous community. The preparation of this article has been based on participant observation and an exhaustive documentary review, in which reference studies of great importance for Aragon have been considered. After analysing all these aspects, it can be concluded that, in Aragon, although there are specific recommendations that are generally followed by the majority of school libraries, educational centres enjoy a certain autonomy and flexibility to adopt different practices and management models. This allows them to offer varied and higher quality services according to the economic resources available in each centre, which generates a disparity that could be corrected through an equitable distribution of resources by the competent authorities.
