Abstract

This article analyses the construction process of the concept of rural education and of rural professional education which have been taking place in Brazil, since the late 90’s, as a result of the social movements’ organization and fights of the peasants, specially the “Landless Rural Workers’ Movement (MST)”. Sayings related to that have been establishing themselves as a conceptual construction, but also as a political and ideological one, which configures itself from the criticism about the conception of rural education and the absence of public policies for the rural people. This process is part of a much wider movement, of the peasants’ fight for guarantees of access to a public and good quality education, for which the MST poses as a necessity that the educational principle of work would not be considered the only methodology to be developed, but that it becomes a practice to be lived.
